How can I arrange a tour of Goddard?

Families and small groups wishing to visit the Visitor Center and simply explore the exhibit gallery and rocket garden on their own during regular hours do not need to make reservations.

Tours are presently available only to school, community and cultural groups and are limited to groups of 40 people or less. Tour participants must be 6th grade-aged or older. Currently, security regulations do not permit "drop-in" tours by the general public. Depending on which areas are available on the day of a tour, tours encompass viewing satellite construction, testing and operations areas. Groups may schedule a tour or in-house program that would occur during the following times:

September - June July - August
Tuesday - Friday
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Tuesday - Friday
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The Visitors Center is open on weekends for your self-guided enjoyment; however, guided tours and special programs are not available. The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center asks that groups planning on visiting schedule a reservation at least one month in advance, with even longer notice recommended in order to increase the likelihood of receiving your first choice of date and time.

The tours are available to foreign nationals from most countries, but you must tell the Visitor Center must at the time you book the tour the full names and passport numbers of each foreign national.

Please use the online calendar system to book your visit. If you need assistance, please call 301-286-3978. Please note that this telephone number is only for callers wishing to reserve a private program for their group.

Does Goddard have a gift shop?

The Goddard Employee Welfare Association operates a gift shop, which is located next to the Visitor Center, in Greenbelt, Md., off Route 193 and ICESat Road. The Goddard Gift Shop is closed on Mondays. For more information about store hours, call 301-286-6476. You may also shop online at http://www.spaceshoponline.com/.

What is there to see at the Goddard Visitor Center?

The Visitor Center has many exciting and visually stimulating exhibits describing some of the space exploration programs of the Goddard Space Flight Center. We have interactive displays and models, as well as real examples of satellites and rocket flight hardware. We even have a piece of the moon! One of the Visitor Center's highlights is an exciting exhibit called "Science on a Sphere." Instead of a flat screen, "Science on a Sphere" projects video onto a floating, 6-foot-wide white globe.

Currently our playlist consists of 28 short animations and movies that are from five to 15 minutes in length. "Science on a Sphere" movies run periodically during most Visitor Center hours, and are ordinarily available during visits, unless the theater has been reserved for private programs by other groups.

Click here for more information on "Science on a Sphere" and other Visitor Center exhibits.

Are there any special programs offered at the Visitor Center?

From time to time we offer special public lectures and programs touching on different aspects of science. Consult the Upcoming Events page for details about these programs.

What food options are available at the Visitor Center?

The Visitor Center has no cafeteria, but guests are welcome to bring their own food and eat at any of the picnic tables on Visitor Center and Goddard Gift Shop grounds. There are several reastauraunts and other food options nearby on Greenbelt Road.

What is the Goddard Visitor Center's photography policy?

Guests are welcome to take photographs in and around the Visitor Center, but due to security regulations, no photographs are to be taken of any of the Goddard buildings other than the Visitor Center. Guests may photograph the rockets in the Visitor Center's Rocket Garden.
