The Aspen Fire in the Coronado National Forest outside Tucson, Arizona, continues to grow, but firefighters continue to make progress, as they had the 30,000 acre fire 35 percent contained early Thursday, June 26, 2003. Growth from wind slowed as winds let up; most of the fire's increase in size now comes from firefighters' efforts to direct the flames. To date, the blaze has caused over $5.5 million in damages and damaged at least 350 homes in the area. These images come from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on June 25, 2003, 1:30 P.M. local time.
