Apollo 11 Tape Search Information

NASA personnel continue to sift through 37-year-old records in their attempt to locate the magnetic tapes that recorded the original Apollo 11 slow-scan TV signal in 1969. The original tapes may be at the Goddard Space Flight Center, which requested their return from the Washington National Records Center in the 1970s, or at another location within the NASA or Federal archiving system. Goddard Space Flight Center is genuinely interested in hearing from you if you had a connection with NASA's Apollo program during those years and you believe you have information of value for this search.

The tapes we are seeking are a special size and shape, which is larger than most magnetic tapes used by the industry in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The dimension of the large tape boxes are 14.75 inches by 11.75 inches by 2 inches. Each tape weights about 15 pounds and is 14 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. + Click to view images of the tapes (PDF file)

Please note:

The information that you provide is being collected so that we can better search for the Apollo 11 slow-scan TV tapes. It will only be used for that intended purpose. Please read the NASA Privacy Policy for more information. Thank you for your interest in NASA, the Apollo program, and the Goddard Space Flight Center!
