Glenn's Visitor Center Events for Second Quarter 2009

CLEVELAND -- The whole family will enjoy the monthly events at NASA's Glenn Research Center's Visitor Center this spring. Each month features presentations by Glenn engineers and researchers, or invited guests, unique craft projects and a souvenir photo.

April 18 - The Science of Baseball
Learn how rocket science and aerodynamics can be applied to baseball. In addition, a representative from the Cleveland Indians will share her perspective on how technology has improved the game.

May 2 - Stargazing
This popular annual event has extended hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. There are presentations throughout the day, and visitors may go into a Starlab Dome to see constellations as they appear in the sky. In the evening they may look through telescopes to view the stars.

June 20 - Dress for Success
NASA engineers explain the challenges of walking in space. See an actual spacesuit and the features that make it possible to live and work in the harsh environment of space. Find out what research is taking place with regard to future spacesuits that will take us to the moon and Mars.

Seating for the presentations fills up quickly because space is limited. To guarantee seating, call ahead at 216-433-9653. Admission is free to the Visitor Center and the presentations.

While at the Visitor Center, visitors may stop by the many interactive exhibits and historic artifacts. Children are invited to do craft activities, and everyone can take home a free souvenir digital photograph of themselves from the "Picture Yourself in Space" photo booth.

The Visitor Center is located at 21000 Brookpark Road. It is wheelchair accessible. All adult visitors must present government-issued identification upon entering the research center's main gate. Access to the Visitor Center is limited to U.S. citizens, and all vehicles are subject to inspection.

Visitors are welcome throughout the year. Hours of operations are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and holidays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. The Visitor Center is closed on Easter; but will be open on Memorial Day, May 25.
