Plum Brook Reactor Facility Decommissioning Update Scheduled
Cleveland -- The ninth annual Community Information Session (CIS) on the decommissioning of the closed Reactor Facility at NASA Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook Station will take place on Wednesday, October 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the cafeteria of the Sandusky High School, located at 2130 Hayes Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio.
The information session will provide an informal atmosphere in which to learn about the progress made on the decommissioning over the last year. Members of NASA's Decommissioning Team and the project's Community Workgroup will be on hand to meet community members and answer their questions.
In addition to a series of displays about the decommissioning, NASA Glenn staff will host displays on the reactor's history and current and future activity at Plum Brook Station. The CIS presents an excellent educational opportunity for students of all ages and their parents. As part of NASA's commitment to science and education, the Mavericks, a team of students from the EHOVE Career Center, will host a robotics display and demonstration. The Mavericks won an award last spring at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Buckeye Regional Robotics Competition, sponsored by Glenn and several other organizations.
The quarterly meeting of the Community Workgroup for the decommissioning of the closed Reactor Facility will precede the CIS at 5:30 p.m. at the same location. The Workgroup meetings provide NASA a vehicle for disseminating information on the decommissioning process to the members of the Workgroup and the community. The Workgroup consists of Erie County health and public safety professionals and representatives from the educational and environmental communities. The public is welcome to attend this meeting.
Media representatives are invited to both the Community Workgroup Meeting and the CIS. Further information about the Decommissioning Project is available via the Decommissioning Information Line at 1-800-260-3838 or the Decommissioning Website at:
