UPCOMING ACTIVITY AT PLUM BROOK STATION

Cleveland - Starting today, September 13, a 23,000-cubic-foot aerostat 
(tethered blimp) -- 25 feet in diameter and 75 feet long -- will 
begin flying over an area at NASA Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook 
Station at 1,000 feet above ground level during daylight hours in 
good weather conditions. 

This information is being provided as it could prompt inquiries from 
your readership or listeners in the vicinity of Plum Brook Station. 

The aerostat will provide a safe and cost effective proving station 
for observation and communication technologies before testing at high 
altitude on expensive stratospheric vehicles. 

The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command's Battle Lab out of 
Colorado Springs, Colo., will administer the government contract and 
provide project oversight. SkySentry, LCC, also from Colorado 
Springs, will furnish the aerostat, crew training and supervisory 
staff. The Ohio Aerospace Institute in Cleveland, Ohio, will manage 
research and development efforts.
