For Release: June 10, 2004
To make it easier for people to attend the NASA Glenn Research Center's Public Open House, visitors will be able to take a free RTA shuttle bus to the Center from the Brookpark Rapid Station, just 1.6 miles east of NASA Glenn on Brookpark Road. The Open House is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The last shuttle leaves Brookpark Station for NASA Glenn at 4 p.m.
"We are happy to have this arrangement with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority," said David DeFelice, project manager for the Public Open House. "Having a public transportation option available to our guests should help reduce traffic congestion and allow us to accommodate more people."
Although the shuttle is free, the regular fare applies to all other RTA service. RTA offers a $3 All-Day Pass from any RTA vehicle or rail station or a $5 All-Day Family Pass, which covers one adult and up to three children ages 3-15. All RTA pre-paid fare media and ID cards will be honored.
RTA offers more than 7,000 free parking places along the Rapid line. For more information on RTA, call the RTAnswer line, 216-621-9500 or visit: http://www.gcrta.org
Visitors who wish to take their own transportation to the open house can park, at no cost, at the IX Center, One IX Center Drive, Cleveland. Only handicapped parking is available at Glenn's Development Engineering Building lot on the north side of Brookpark Road off of Old Grayton Road. Free shuttles to the open house will be provided from both locations.
Admission to the open house is free. All adult visitors must present a government-issued photo identification to obtain entrance to the Center. All persons are subject to inspection. Foreign nationals interested in attending should call 216-433-2291.
The Open House will give visitors a chance to learn about the projects and programs being worked on at Glenn and tour the research facilities. They can also talk to Glenn scientists and engineers, who will be available to answer questions about current and future missions. The Open House will be a fun and educational experience for children too, with special hands-on activities designed for them.
