During the tour visitors can walk through the wind tunnel and control room area, where researchers explore the dynamics of flight in speeds from 0 mph to Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound). The tunnel has played a vital role in the development of aerospace technology for the last 50 years and has led to Glenn's preeminence in jet engine technology and the Apollo missions. The tours start at 11 a.m. and continue at half hour intervals through 2 p.m. Free tickets for the tours will be handed out Saturday at the Visitor Center, on a first come, first served basis. There will be a limit of 30 persons per each 45-minute tour. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The Visitor Center is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Visitor Center is wheelchair accessible along with most of the Wind Tunnel Complex. The public tours are conducted out of Glenn's Visitor Center every Wednesday and third Saturday of each month. The next monthly tour is planned for late September and will include the Icing Research Tunnel and Hangar facilities.
