EARLS HONORED FOR DEDICATION TO PROMOTING RACIAL EQUALITY
Dr. Julian Earls, deputy director for operations at the NASA Lewis Research Center, was recently presented the Racial Equality award by the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission at its 14th annual M.L.K. Commemorative Celebration at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, OH.
The award was created to honor individuals who exemplify the belief that all people, regardless of ethnicity, skin tone or other racial distinction, should have equal access to the rights, privileges and responsibilities established by the laws of this nation.
Earls was recognized for his active involvement in events promoting racial equality. He was invited early last year to participate in President Clinton's Race Initiative where he served on a panel that discussed the nation's scientific and technological challenges for the 21st century. Earls was also a special guest at the White House this past September for the President's presentation of the Presidential Awards for Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. He was the keynote speaker for the closing program that honored the award recipients.
Portrait photographs of Earls are available upon request.
