NASA Center Launches 2nd Phase of Educational Initiative
Cleveland, OH -- The Lewis Research Center announced the beginning of Phase II of it's educational initiative, LEEP -- Lewis Empowerment of Educators Program. The first phase began in 1993. Through LEEP, NASA utilizes outstanding teachers who have demonstrated creativity and a dedication to the teaching profession in aerospace education in Lewis' six state region. Lewis' region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
According to JoAnn Charleston, chief of the Office of Educational Programs, "We are hoping to motivate students to possible science- related careers by enhancing teachers' skills in science, mathematics and technology education."
The following teachers were selected to serve as Aerospace Education Liaisons (AEL) for Phase II of the LEEP project:

Through the AEL, students will have greater access to NASA related material, programs and activities because their teachers have integrated aerospace education in their classrooms. The selected teachers serve as a resource to teachers in their areas and become role models in teaching aerospace education, identifying outstanding educators and students to participate in NASA projects.
