Dr. Carol Russo Named Director of Aeronautics at NASA'S Lewis
Research Center
Cleveland, OH -- NASA Lewis Research Center
Director Lawrence J. Ross announced the appointment of Dr. Carol J.
Russo as director of Aeronautics, effective August 15, 1993. Dr.
Russo replaces Neal T. Saunders who retired from NASA Lewis on
September 30, 1993.
"Dr. Russo's vision, outstanding leadership skills and knowledge of
our technology customers' needs will have a direct and positive
impact on the Center's aeropropulsion research and technology
programs," Ross said.
As director of Aeronautics, Dr. Russo leads a staff of approximately
1000 civil service and support service contractor personnel engaged
in the development of advanced propulsion technologies for use in
future aircraft engines.
Prior to joining NASA Lewis, Dr. Russo had 20 years of industrial
experience at GE Aircraft Engines both in Lynn, Mass., and in
Evendale, Ohio, spanning commercial and military, large and small
engine systems.
Dr. Russo earned a bachelor of science degree from Boston University
and a master of science and Ph.D. in fluid mechanics from Harvard
University. Dr. Russo also received two Amelia Earhart scholarships
for graduate study at Harvard University from Zonta International.
