Cleveland's NASA Glenn Research Center's Acoustical Testing Laboratory (ATL) provides acoustic (sound) emissions testing and noise control services to a variety of customers, particularly for microgravity space-flight hardware that must meet International Space Station limits on noise emissions. The Lab's state-of-the-art, echo-free interior provided an ideal location for the Cleveland Institute of Music here in University Circle. The Audio Recording Department conducted research on the patterns that sound travels from several musical instruments. They could determine the ideal placements of microphones for audio recordings. This collaborative project was part of the NASA's outreach program.
