Position: Amateur Radio Station Volunteer
Duties: The volunteer will man the amateur radio station exhibit. He/she will explain to visitors what amateur radio is about; its purpose and importance; how to operate one and what equipment is needed; the steps to becoming an amateur radio operator including how to obtain a license; and how it relates to the space program (many of the astronauts are licensed and operate the amateur radio station on board both the space shuttle and space station).
Qualifications (special skills needed/physical requirements of job): The volunteer must have knowledge of amateur radio and a valid amateur radio license. He/she should enjoy talking to people of all ages and backgrounds about amateur radio. Public speaking experience is helpful but not necessary. A general knowledge of aeronautics and space is also helpful.
Day and time needed: Tuesdays and/or Fridays, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.; One Sunday per month, 1 - 5 p.m. (4 hours)
