Program Description:
The N.A.S.A. Project is a 6-week summer program for students attending Cleveland Metropolitan and Lorain County Schools who will be seventh, eighth or ninth graders in the Fall 2009. The program is designed to expand student’s understanding of possible career choices in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).The program consists of weekly classroom meetings and computer classes which facilitate projects applying mathematics and scientific concepts and prepare students with innovative Ohio Achievement Test strategies by providing a weekly Scholastic Challenge Contest. Additionally students will participate in a variety of enrichment activities such as field trips and tours, under the careful supervision of the N.A.S.A. Project staff. A unique component of this program is the Saturday parent-student workshops, designed to help the student and parent learn more about preparing for the Ohio Achievement Tests, financial literacy, and discovering new methods to control and create an environment supportive of his/her child’s development.
Student participants will meet Monday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Student participants and parents/guardians will meet on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
