Janet L. Watkins serves as the Associate Director at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's John H. Glenn Research Center. Appointed to this position on July 15, 2012, she is responsible for the overall management of the institutional operations at the Center and provides the coordination and integration of institutional activities which cross directorate organizations. She serves as Glenn's focal point for all institutional functions and coordinates the consideration and evaluation of means to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided by the institutional organizations at the Center.
Prior to becoming the Associate Director, Watkins served the Technical Expert/In-sourcing and Acting Deputy Director, Manpower, Personnel and Services at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, or WPAFB, in Dayton, Ohio. In her role as Technical Expert, she oversaw the development of policies, procedures, concepts and guidance for Air Force Material Command's, or AFMC, In-Sourcing Program providing technical expertise to all AFMC A1 critical missions.
From 2009 to 2010, Watkins was the Organization Division Chief of Manpower, Personnel and Resources Directorate, United Stations Air Force (USAF) Headquarters at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. From 1989 to 2009, Watkins held a number of increasingly responsible management positions for the USAF. Overall, her government service spans 32 years.
Watkins has received numerous awards for her leadership and professional accomplishments including the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 2009, Notable Achievement Awards in 2008 and 2001, and the USAF Manpower and Organization Headquarters-level Senior Civilian Award for Professional Excellence in 2003.
Watkins, an Ohio native, earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and management from Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio and her master's degree in public administration from Central Michigan University.
