Edwards, Calif. –David D. McBride has been appointed deputy director of NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
McBride replaces Steven G. Schmidt, who was recently appointed director of the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, Calif.
In announcing McBride's appointment to center staff, center director Kevin L. Petersen said McBride "has demonstrated a broad range of leadership and management capabilities while acting in the capacity of deputy director for the last six months and in multiple prior senior management assignments."
As deputy director of the NASA field center, McBride assists the center director in all aspects of center operations. Along with center strategy, oversight and management, he is the primary point of contact for NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate for the center.
McBride's prior management assignments at NASA Dryden include serving as Associate Director for Programs, Mission Director for Planning and Business Development, manager of the Flight and Systems Demonstration project under the agency's Vehicle System Program, and as manager of NASA's Flight Research Program at NASA Dryden.
