The Scanning High-resolution Interferometer Sounder was mounted on the bottom of NASA Global Hawk 872 in preparation for the HS3 mission. The sensor measures emitted thermal radiation to obtain temperature and water vapor profiles of Earth’s atmosphere along with the sea surface temperature and some cloud properties.August 13, 2012
