NASA’s ER-2 landed at the Agency’s Wallops Flight Facility in Wallops, VA, during its development flights for two future satellite instruments. Cloud-Aerosol Transport System (CATS) and Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar (MABEL) were test beds for instruments to be carried by future satellite missions, and because they were both high-altitude laser instruments they shared space on the ER-2 in part as a way to lower costs for both teams.September 7, 2012
