This modified Lockheed JetStar business jet was flown by NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center on a variety of significant aeronautical research projects from 1964 through 1989. Among these were acoustic studies on advanced subscale propeller designs, laminar-flow control research, alternative landing approaches to reduce airport-area noise, and as a general-purpose airborne simulator capable of duplicating the flight characteristics of a wide variety of advanced aircraft. The recently refurbished aircraft is currently on display at the Joe Davies Heritage Airpark adjacent to Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale, Calif. (NASA Photo / Tony Landis)
