Former NASA astronaut John Herrington had the rapt attention of students while detailing his career Feb. 6 at the San Cayetano Elementary School in Fillmore, Calif., a NASA Explorer School sponsored by NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center. Herrington became the first native American to venture into space in November 2002 when he was a member of the Space Shuttle Endeavour's crew on a mission to the International Space Station. During a community presentation the preceding evening at Fillmore Middle School and two presentations Feb. 6 for San Cayetano students, Herrington noted that everyone has the opportunity to do something remarkable with their lives, and challenged them to find something they are passionate about and then to "follow their dream."
