08.28.09

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs were established by Congress to provide seed capital to assist American-owned small businesses to participate in U.S. federal agency research and development efforts. The Phase I award provides up to $100k and 6 months for SBIR and 12 months for STTR, which conducts a feasibility study of the new technology. The Phase II award provides up to $600K for both SBIR and STTR, which provides 24 months to develop a promising technology to a prototype. Specific program information and detailed proposal preparation instructions are available in the current Solicitation booklet and online at: www.sbir.nasa.gov

Potential offerors are normally invited to talk to NASA technical program managers and researchers about their programs and needs, except for the blackout period when a Solicitation is active (between its date of issue and the deadline for receipt of proposals). The 2009 solicitation is currently active and open July 7 through September 3, 2009.
