Eugene L. Tu became director of the Exploration Technology Directorate at NASA's Ames Research Center in 2005. Tu joined NASA in 1984. Prior to his current position, Tu was Computing, Information and Communications Technology (CICT) program manager. He has served NASA as a research scientist and in several management positions.

Tu received his education at the University of California, Berkeley (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering) and Stanford University (Master of Science and Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics) and was awarded an Outstanding Leadership Medal by NASA in 2000.
