NASA, LOCKHEED MARTIN TO HOST SPACE WEATHER WORKSHOP

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. – News media are invited to attend a "Space 
Weather Risks and Society" workshop at NASA's Ames Research Center, 
Moffett Field, Calif., Oct. 15-16, 2011 to hear experts discuss solar 
storms and how to lessen their potential catastrophic impact on 
Earth. 

The two-day workshop will bring together experts in solar and space 
weather, industry, economics, government and emergency management to 
discuss the societal impacts of space weather, how to avoid or 
mitigate the impacts, and how to respond to them. The workshop will 
be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. PDT Saturday, Oct. 15 and 8 am to 4 
p.m. PDT Sunday, Oct.16 in the NASA Ames Conference Center, Bldg. 3 
located at the corner of Severyns Avenue and South Akron Road. 

The workshop is co-sponsored by NASA Ames, Lockheed Martin, the 
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Boulder, 
Colo., and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, a national scientific 
laboratory in the United Kingdom.
