NASA Ames to Host Public Event During 'Moon Week' Celebration
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. – As part of a celebration of the 39th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon on July 20, 1969, NASA Ames Research Center and the NASA Lunar Science Institute will host a festive lunar event open to the public on Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Featured at the free event will be panel discussions about the moon, fun and educational activities for children and families, and films, including official NASA Apollo documentaries. Among the activities for children will be opportunities to build and launch paper lunar rockets, create lunar craters and build miniature solar systems out of edible materials.
Also featured will be remarks by noted planetary scientist Chris McKay entitled “What are We Going to Do on the Moon?” In addition, there will be presentations about the moon by space entrepreneurs and a panel of young NASA scientists and engineers.
The Sunday afternoon public event precedes a three-day Lunar Science Conference at NASA Ames from July 21-23, 2008, where a new generation of opportunities for conducting studies of the moon, on the moon and from the moon will be explored and lunar research findings will be discussed.

WHERE: NASA Ames’ Exploration Center, located at the Moffett Field main gate, Bldg. 943 and Bldg. 3, the Ames Conference Center.
WHEN: 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. PDT, Sunday, July 20, 2008.
WHO: Lunar scientists, researchers and NASA officials.
To reach NASA Ames, drive on U.S. 101, exit at Moffett Field/NASA Parkway, drive east on Moffett Boulevard towards the main gate. Bldg. 3 is located at the corner of South Akron Road and Severyns Road at NASA Ames. Bldg. 943 and the Exploration Center are located at the main gate.
