International Space Station Workshop Scheduled at NASA Ames
MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. -- Researchers, educators, venture capitalists and NASA officials will convene at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., Oct. 2-4, 2007 to begin identifying and crafting pioneering research opportunities for the International Space Station. WHAT:
Chaired by Nobel Laureate Dr. Baruch S. Blumberg of the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, Pa., the International Space Station National Laboratory Workshop will feature panel discussions, presentations and remarks for a variety of space exploration experts. NASA Ames is a co-sponsor of the workshop, which is hosted by the Alliance for Commercial Enterprises in Space. WHO:
Featured speakers include:
• William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for the NASA Space Operations Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters; keynote address is scheduled on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 1:15 p.m., PDT. • J. Craig Venter, founder, chairman and president of the J. Craig Venter Institute, a non-profit research and support organization dedicated to human, microbial, plant and environmental genomic research; address scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 8:30 a.m. PDT. • Astronaut Don Pettit, who served aboard the International Space Station and launched the Saturday morning science class from the space station; keynote address is scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 11:30 a.m. PDT. • Blumberg, Thomas Pickens II, chief executive officer of SPACEHAB and Cheryl Nickerson, associate professor of Life Sciences, Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology, Arizona State University, are featured speakers during a public presentation Oct. 2, at 7 p.m., PDT in the Eagle Room, Bldg. 943, located at 943 NASA Parkway, opposite the NASA Exploration Center (the large white dome) at NASA Ames. The International Space Station National Laboratory Workshop will be held in the NASA Ames Conference Center, Bldg. 3, NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif. NASA Ames Research Center is located about 40 miles south of San Francisco on U.S. 101. Take the Moffett Field exit and drive east to the main gate. Continue on South Akron Road towards Hangar One to the conference center, located in NASA Research Park at the corner of South Akron Road and Severyns Avenue.
