NASA Releases Results of Safety Review

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif. – NASA Ames Research Center will provide local reporters an opportunity to ask questions during a news conference originating Wednesday, Aug. 29, from NASA Headquarters, Washington, after NASA officials announce the results of a review that evaluates allegations of improper alcohol use by astronauts.

NASA Chief of Safety and Mission Assurance Bryan O'Connor conducted the review. NASA Administrator Michael Griffin and O'Connor will participate in the news conference, which begins at 10:30 a.m. PDT.

O'Connor began reviewing all existing policies and procedures related to alcohol use and astronaut medical fitness prior to spaceflight after the NASA Astronaut Heath Care System Review Committee released its findings in July. His report will be available online at 8 a.m. PDT on Wednesday at:

The news conference will be carried live on NASA Television and online. To watch online and for NASA TV downlink, schedule and web video streaming information, visit:

To reach Ames, take U.S. Highway 101 to the Moffett Field, NASA Parkway exit and drive east in the right lane towards the main gate. A security guard will direct visitors to park in a small lot to the right, near the Visitor Badge Office where U.S. citizens will be asked to present government picture identification, such as a valid driver's license. News media representatives will be provided directions to Ames' main auditorium.
