NASA to Host Girl Scouts for a Week-Long Science Experience

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif.- NASA is helping young women explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif., in collaboration with the Girl Scouts of the San Francisco Bay Area, is hosting 50 high school-aged Girl Scouts for 'Launch into Technology,' a program consisting of two seven-day residential institutes, one focused on robotics and the other on aeronautics. Scouts will interact with subject matter experts and participate in hands-on activities in a fun, non-competitive environment. The aeronautics institutes will include wind tunnel experiments and an exploration of flight simulators and the robotics institute will include instruction on robot design and a robotics competition.
On Wednesday, June 27, news media representatives are invited to the 'Launch into Technology' media day from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. PDT. Girl Scouts will be available for interviews and project demonstrations.

The collaboration between Girl Scouts of the San Francisco Bay Area and NASA Ames is designed to help girls discover their abilities, explore new adventures, and build confidence. The partnership is designed to help girls appreciate that careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are good choices for women, and most importantly to realize that they can be successful in these fields.
