NASA, UNCF Special Programs Corporation to Announce New Initiative

WHAT: Reporters are invited to attend a news conference with NASA and the United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP). Representatives from NASA and the UNCFSP will share details of a new national initiative that will be headquartered at the NASA Research Park at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, Calif.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 11:15 a.m. PDT.

SPECIAL NOTICE: Due to limited seating, members of the media are required to pre-register by 2 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 27, if they wish to attend. To register, e-mail Laura Lewis at llewis@mail.arc.nasa.gov and indicate ‘NASA/UNCF Registration’ in the subject of the e-mail. Seating will be provided on a space-available basis. Registration will be confirmed by 4 p.m. PDT on June 27. Parking and access information will be provided with confirmation of your registration.

WHERE: Google, Inc. will host the news conference in Building 43 at their corporate campus, located at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, Calif.

WHO: S. Pete Worden, NASA Ames director and Aaron R. Andrews, president and CEO of UNCFSP, will discuss the initiative and will be available to answer reporters' questions.

WHY: NASA is striving to increase the number of engineers and scientists who might help the agency implement the Vision for Space Exploration.

HOW: NASA will cooperate with UNCFSP and others to implement the new educational venture, which is to be announced.
