Mars Drill

5.26.05

Mars Drill Graphic: The 'Mars Drill' brings subterranean 'core' samples to the surface that are 10 inches (25 centimeters) long and one inch in diameter (2.5 centimeters) while operating with low power and no drilling fluids. An automated core and sample handling facility extracts the cores from the drill and passes them to a suite of instruments on a 'Mars lander platform' for analysis.
