11. What is the next step after silicon computer chips? (1:03 minutes)
Dr. Meyya Meyyappan: "Beyond silicon a number of groups around the world have been looking at alternative technologies. One may be using carbon nanotube instead of silicon and make carbon nanotube-based chips. Another competing technology is to make electronics based on organic molecules. And people have been looking at organic molecule-based memory chips and processor chips. And that seems to be a technology with some potential. And so, these two are two top candidates, and how that will work out, you know, that is something we will wait and see. In any case, we are looking at something like umm, at something like 15 years or so before any of these technologies could completely mature and be used routinely in manufacturing and in products."
