3. How do the dyes work inside the CD to help you detect biological-related substances? (37 SECONDS)

"And what is it is – it’s a fluorescent dye. And fluorescence is a very common condition where if you shine light on a particular type of a molecule, the light fluoresces in a different wavelength. So, if you shine like a blue light on a fluorescent molecule, it might give a red fluorescent signal out of it, making. . . . red light might be generated by the molecule. So, these kind of techniques can be used in conjunction with a microscope in order to determine whether or not that molecule is present, and then based on how bright the light is that’s generated, you can determine how many of those molecules are there.”
