Paul Agnew has over 20 years of federal program analysis and financial management experience with NASA and the Air Force. Agnew was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of NASA's Ames Research Center in September 2006. Prior to this appointment he held a number of responsible positions, including the Robotic Lunar Exploration Program (RLEP) Business Manager, Ames Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Deputy CFO for Resources and Acting Deputy Division Chief for Finance. He leads a civil service and contractor staff of 150 people in the management of the center's funding totaling approximately $900 million.
Agnew ensures the financial health of the organization by leading the organization's budget and financial operations that enable the effective management, control and reporting of the government's assets. He provides leadership, management and direction to the center's financial and resources management staff in the development and administration of the center's financial systems and processes. He has been recognized agency-wide for his leadership in Full Cost and for the valuable role he played in redesigning budget processes and methodologies. Agnew is also responsible for ensuring the necessary guidance is in place to protect Ames' current and future financial standing by interpreting the political environment and providing business analysis in support of center plans, strategic investment and new business opportunities.
In October 2011 Agnew was asked to act in the additional role of Center Associate Director for Mission Support. In this capacity he is responsible for developing and promoting strategy that aligns all of the center's mission support functions with the center's projects and research in a balanced, efficient and effective manner. The position also controls and adjusts objectives, priorities, organizational environment and operating policies for the center with regard to the institution.
Agnew has a B.A. Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Calif. and has taken coursework at McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in Sacramento, Calif. He has been recognized with the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, the NASA Chief Financial Officer Award, multiple NASA and Ames Honor Awards and he is a Certified Government Financial Manager and a Member of the Association of Government Accountants.
