Your mission: Restore critical systems when meteors damage life-support equipment in your lunar settlement. This sounds like a science fiction movie, right? Actually it is NASA's new 3-D computer game, "Moonbase Alpha." Come and play the game!
Asteroids are more than just a rocky metallic object that orbits the sun. Ceres, the largest asteroid in our solar system, may have polar caps like Earth. Join NASA as we learn about these big rocks.
NASA's Dawn spacecraft, the first ever to orbit an object in the main asteroid belt, is spiraling toward Vesta as it flies in its first of four intensive science orbits. This initial orbit of the rocky world began Aug. 11, 2011, at an altitude of nearly 2,700 kilometers (1,700 miles) and will provide in-depth analysis of the asteroid. Vesta is the brightest object in the asteroid belt as seen from Earth and is thought to be the source of many meteorites that fall to Earth.
