Why do astronauts live in cans? When you look at a picture of the International Space Station, you’ll see some basic shapes: panels, beams, and cylinders. The flat panels are for places where designers needed large surface areas to collect sunlight or to radiate heat. The beams are for strength, like bridges on Earth. What about the cylinders?
