Expedition 35 Crew

The Expedition 35 crew poses in front of a picture of Earth taken from space The Expedition 35 crew has completed its mission to the International Space Station. Crew members were from the United States, Russia and Canada.

On Dec. 19, 2012, Chris Hadfield, Roman Romanenko and Tom Marshburn launched in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. They docked with the space station two days later and joined the Expedition 34 crew. They stayed aboard to make up the first half of the Expedition 35 crew.

Chris Hadfield was the Expedition 35 commander. This mission was his third trip into space and his second visit to the space station. Hadfield grew up on a farm in Canada. He became interested in flying at a young age and won pilot scholarships. After serving as a military pilot, he was selected to become an astronaut for the Canadian Space Agency.

Cosmonaut Roman Romanenko was an Expedition 35 flight engineer. In 2009, he spent six months living and working on the space station as part of the Expedition 20/21 crew. He likes to play tennis and volleyball. His father, Yuri Romanenko, was also a cosmonaut.

Astronaut Tom Marshburn was an Expedition 35 flight engineer. He was born in North Carolina. Before joining NASA, Marshburn was an emergency room doctor. This mission was his second visit to the space station. He went to the station in 2009 as part of a space shuttle mission on Endeavour.

On March 28, 2013, Chris Cassidy, Pavel Vinogradov and Alexander Misurkin launched to the space station in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. They joined the other three members of the Expedition 35 crew already on the station.

Cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov was an Expedition 35 flight engineer. He is from Russia. He stayed and became the Expedition 36 commander. This mission was his third trip into space and his second visit to the space station. He already has spent more than a year in space!

Chris Cassidy was an Expedition 35 flight engineer. Before becoming an astronaut with NASA, he spent 10 years as a U.S. Navy SEAL. This mission was his second visit to the space station. He went to the station in 2009 as part of a space shuttle mission on Endeavour.

Cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin was an Expedition 35 flight engineer. This was his first trip to space. Before becoming a cosmonaut, Misurkin was a pilot instructor in the Russian military. He likes to play basketball and downhill ski.

The Expedition 35 crew designed a mission patch before flying into space. The patch features a bright sunrise as seen from the International Space Station. The colorful bands created by Earth's atmosphere cross the patch. And the large 35 shows that this was the 35th space station mission.
