The Expedition 30 Crew

ISS Expedition 30 Crew The Expedition 30 crew has completed its mission on the International Space Station. Crew members were from the United States, Russia and the Netherlands.

On Nov. 14, 2011, Anton Shkaplerov, Anatoly Ivanishin, and Dan Burbank launched in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. They docked with the space station two days later and joined the Expedition 29 crew. They stayed aboard to make up the first half of the Expedition 30 crew.

Astronaut Dan Burbank was the Expedition 30 commander. This was his third visit to the space station. The two earlier trips were short visits during space shuttle missions. On Earth, he plays guitar in Max-Q, an all-astronaut band.

Cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov was an Expedition 30 flight engineer. He is from Russia. He is a lieutenant colonel in the Russian Air Force. He started flying planes when he was only 15 years old. This was his first trip to space.

Cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin was an Expedition 30 flight engineer. He is from Russia. He is a lieutenant colonel in the Russian Air Force. He did his first skydive jump when he was just 14 years old. He has skydived more than 180 times! Expedition 30 was his first trip to space.

On December 21, 2011, Don Pettit, Oleg Kononenko and André Kuipers launched to the space station in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. They joined the other three members of the Expedition 30 crew already on the station.

Cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko was an Expedition 30 flight engineer. He stayed on and became the Expedition 31 commander. He had visited the space station once before. He spent 199 days in space as part of the Expedition 17 crew.

Astronaut André Kuipers was an Expedition 30 flight engineer. He is from the Netherlands. In 2004, he visited the space station for just over a week. He performed 21 experiments during the trip, including growing plants to see how microgravity affected them.

Astronaut Don Pettit was an Expedition 30 flight engineer. He is a scientist from Oregon. This was his third visit to the space station. He lived there for over five months as part of the Expedition 6 crew. And he visited for two weeks on space shuttle Endeavour during the STS-126 mission.

The Expedition 30 crew designed a mission patch before flying into space. The completed space station is shown in orbit above Earth. The names of the crew members are around the outside edge of the patch. And the XXX is the Roman numeral for 30.
