MALE SPEAKER: I am from Overland Park, Kansas, which is a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, and back a number of years ago I don't remember exactly what year it was now a group from Kansas City went down to the first night launch, the Moon Shot. It was Apollo 17.
To us, of course, it was a very memorable experience. Just the light that was created by the rocket as it took off just lit up the whole area. You had no idea it was close to midnight, which was the time that it got launched, but it was just a most memorable experience.
Coincidentally, I met a classmate of mine from college who was a fellow named Lowell Weicker who at the time was the Senator from Connecticut. He was down there for that particular launch. So it was sort of like a reunion with an old friend, as well as the opportunity to see the first night launch of a satellite.
