FEMALE SPEAKER: I remember being very interested in NASA from the first time I heard about astronauts being chosen.
I was always scared that they would do that. I'm claustrophobic, and I couldn't imagine anybody getting in a little tiny space capsule.
My youngest son's name is James Alan, and he was named Alan after Alan Shepard, and he smiles when I tell him that.
I watched every space flight, every landing, sweated it out until they got those men back on the boats, and on the Moon landing in July, all of my family, two boys and a girl and my husband and I would have been watching, and it was just more exciting than we could imagine.
It was I guess we caught the Kennedy spirit of we can do it and we should do it and we will do it, and it was wonderful when we did it.
